A Day Trip to McKinney

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

A few years ago, the City of McKinney was voted the best place to live in America by Money Magazine. Today, it remains a bustling center with beautiful, historic homes around it.

It is the very best place to spend a day.

Just off the square, behind the Convention and Visitor's Bureau, is the crown jewel of the area - the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts. The Center boasts a large regional art collection that is available for school groups and scholarly projects.

The Center has regular events and tours, open to the public, and several of the arts and literary groups welcome new members to their organizations (i.e. The Art Club of McKinney, The Garden Club, Edelweiss Club, En Avant, and more).

One of the highights of the Center are the day events of Tea and Tour, perfect for bus tours and large groups of up to 60 people. Also very popular and typically "sold out" are the twice a year Granddaughter Teas. For the remainder of 2021, the only Granddaughter tea available is on Sunday afternoon, October 10th from 2:00 - 3:30 PM. Reservations are required and can be secured by going to www.heardcraig.org (under the events tab).

As a Smithsonian Affiliate museum, we will host the "Picturing Women Inventors" this fall. We hope you will join us.

The series is open to the public and all are welcome.
